Well, well, who else couldn’t wait for some more expert insights on the future of commerce? Your time has come!

“Everyone who can’t or doesn’t want to go digital will be out of the picture soon. This is especially true in eCommerce. Startups will the ones helping physical retailers to keep up with digital challenges.”
Gerald Schönbucher – Hitmeister
Data will get more important in future eCommerce. The ones knowing how to target their customers individually, will be successful. This is true for customer acquisition, as well as for retention and churn management. A lot of companies still believe in targetgroups. The ideal targetgroup, however, will have the size of one person soon. The better I understand customer behaviour, the more purposeful and aggressively can be my approach to new customers.
Another trend, which I, however, only believe in limitedly, is Same Day Delivery. Customers are only rarely interested in paying additional costs for that.
Finally I think that media and eCommerce companies are getting more and more akin. Retailers create content to entertain customers and because Google rewards it with a better organic ranking. Media companies are desperately seeking transactional business models to minimize their dependency from subscription and promotional income. To do so, they keep investing in retailers or at least intermediates – as long as they do not take commodity risks.
